Information for Crew
Carnival is ultra-profitable
It is owned by one of the wealthiest Americans on the planet. He has a personal wealth estimated to be $15 BILLION Australian dollars, AND earns $11,000 per hour in total compensation.
The pay and conditions on your ship should be much, much better.
The Maritime Union of Australia (MUA) is the Union that covers all people working on ships and in ports in Australia. Almost all of the maritime workers you meet in Australia are members of the Union: crew on the tugs, refuelling barges, and Pilot boats; the workers tying up the ship when it arrives in Port, loading and unloading supplies and baggage.
We will not stand by and let Carnival treat cruise-ship crew with such awful disrespect on our Coast.
The MUA is pushing Carnival to improve the pay, food, living quarters, internet access and safety standards on its three ships home-ported in Australia: the Encounter, Splendor and Adventure.
If you need help, you can contact the Union at any time. We can meet you privately in Port when you have shore-leave, or you can contact the union on the MUA Cruise Ship Crew Support Line (+61 400 526 313).
We also need your help
The more we know about what is happening on these three ships, the better equipped we will be to secure the support of the Australian people for this struggle.
We want you to tell us your stories
Stories of bad food, stories of terrible bosses, stories of insanely long hours, unpaid overtime and stolen wages. Stories of your hair falling out and your teeth rotting from the bad food and water.
The MUA Cruise Ship Crew Support Line is completely confidential. Your privacy will be completely protected by the Union at all times.
